Established 1927, the Réserve Nationale de Camargue, covers more than 32,000 acres around and including the Étang du Vaccarès. It is a UNESCO “Biosphere Reserve,” one of 300 such sites in the world. The National Reserve can only be visited from the designated center at La Capelière. It can also be viewed from the sea wall and various paths along its edges.
